Digital Maps

For the most part, Cartoko has high-quality, high-resolution, and copyright-free maps online. The vast majority of the archive consists of either historic maps where the copyright has expired, or U.S. government-produced maps that are ineligible for copyright. Regarding the digital reproduction of these maps, they are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 agreement.

Where there are exceptions, they are clearly noted, with links to their original copyright statements where available.

Text

Sometimes the text describing the map is quoted directly from the map’s source, and attributed accordingly. In other cases, the text is original. For text originating with Cartoko, this too is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 agreement.
