Field of Gettysburg, July 1st, 2nd & 3rd 1863

Ditterline’s unusual oval map of the Gettysburg Battlefield (July 1-3, 1863) illustrates the Union and Confederate lines of battle. This battle took place Wednesday (July 1) through Friday (July 3). Buildings, commanders, headquarters, roads and railroads are drawn, with hachures included for terrain. Positions of batteries, along with corps, divisions, and brigades are portrayed.
This map was published as an accompaniment to his 24-page pamphlet (Sketch of the Battles of Gettysburg with an Explanatory Map), which describes the three-day battle in detail from the Union perspective.
