A note along the bottom states that the city portrait was “drawn on stone from nature and the daguerreotype by J.T. Williams.” Typically for a view like this the city would have been drawn from nature, with the buildings drawn from the photographs (daguerreotypes).
Among the illustrations lining the map are two showing the Pennsylvania State House and State Senate chambers. This building was destroyed by fire in 1897, and replaced by the current state capitol building.
