A Plan of the Town of Boston, with the Intrenchments &c. of His Majestys Forces in 1775

British Lt. Thomas Hyde Page was severely wounded during the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775. Upon his return to England on disability, he created this map showing troop dispositions, batteries, fortifications, major officers’ residences, and major points of interest as they were in late 1775. He likely drew on the previous work of two other British officers, Capt. John Montresor and Lt. Richard Williams.
Mount Whoredom, a term likely in use before the British arrived, probably was not put into a printed map prior to the British maps of Boston made during this time. Located just west of Beacon Hill, it referred to the relatively high concentration of prostitutes who operated in the town.
